Motorcycle Licence A1, A2 or A: which category do you need?

The motorcycle licence has several categories. Which path suits you depends mainly on your age, any previous licences you hold, and the engine power of the motorcycle you want to ride. A1: light motorcycle A1 is intended for light motorcycles. The exact age and vehicle rules can change, so before you start, always check the current requirements from the Dutch government and the CBR. A2: medium motorcycle A2 gives access to medium-powered motorcycles and can be a logical stepping stone. If you already have A1, you may be able to move up through a progression route under certain conditions. A: heavy motorcycle Category A is for heavy motorcycles. Depending on your age and experience, direct access or a graduated route may apply. A driving school can calculate your personal route. The exams The training generally consists of theory and practical components for vehicle control and road traffic participation. Leave enough time between the different parts to build up technique and traffic awareness.
